Just when it appeared that Mike Patton’s solo date in Amsterdam would signal the end of the FNM reunion, the band have announced their opening two European festival dates of the summer and promised more to follow.
Indeed, should they follow the often hectic schedule of their 2009 European tour, it seems likely that Faith No More will squeeze in another date on the same weekend as their Optimus Alive and Sonisphere engagements in Portugal in Spain. The Bilbao BBK Live festival, which also features Rammstein from Sonisphere and Pearl Jam from Optimus, looks a good bet. Also on the same weekend are the mammoth and related Oxegen and T in the Park festivals in Ireland as well as the Ruisrock festival in Finland, which FNM headlined last year, and Serbia’s iconic Exit festival. Oxegen has gone somewhat hip-hop this year and the bill looks loaded but more names will be revealed on 8 March. T in the Park has already announced its headliners and is sold out so looks a remote possibility.
With as many as ten major festivals taking place across Europe on some weekends, further summer speculation would be laborious and ill-informed. However, some news to keep an eye out for next week is the announcement of the final headliner for the United Kingdom Sonisphere date. No word of an exact date yet but this week’s announcement came on Tuesday. Iron Maiden and Rammstein are already conformed for the Knebworth two-dayer on Friday 30 July and Saturday 1 August.
A confirmation for that and suddenly a whole summer of FNM again looms appealingly for European fans. What though for the US and north America in general? Three Warfield dates and the Coachella festival have been confirmed so far and there’s not even a sniff of a rumour of anything else as of yet. Some fans have taken the new European dates as a sign that there won’t be any more US shows but there is still plenty of time to fit in more dates before a European jaunt and it must be remembered that the lucrative European festival circuit was more than likely the trigger for the whole reunion in the first place so it is hardly surprising that it is being milked again.
As for a new record, again speculation is all I can offer but it does appear that the band have not even got so far as discussing the prospect in detail as of yet. Whatever the future holds, just over one year after the announcement that Faith No More would reform, the Second Coming adventure continues to enthrall.
Let us know your thoughts below.
There you go…..there’s your NY date.
July 5th in Brooklyn!!
@Miss Chievous I had the logo tattooed on my arm a month ago :p he he
@Intregra : Funny !! I’m going to tattoo the FNM logo on six weeks (last week of April actually!!)
Hey guys, you have no idea of how happy European mofos like me are happy. Of course, I’m still hoping for a french venue but yet in Spain, Switzerland and in Belgium, come on guys, Paris is not as far from those place !! LOL
After the Aussie gigs, I thought that Coachella would be the very last gig (sorry if I miss other US shows, I’ve been very busy) and now, they’re do it again !! Let’s wish for new records, my friends !! 😉
More speculation (in other words, total BS) but my guess is that if we do see a new album, FNM will become the side project rather than the main focus (at least for Mike P and B). I wouldn’t be suprised if they released an album on Ipecac or Kool Arrow rather than Slash. Then they wouldn’t have the pressure to tour. It may limit the distribution (or may open up distribution for their other talent) but, in the digital age of .mp3 downloads, who knows.
i was gonna get that KFAD dog tattooed on my arm…beat me to it 😀
I’m hoping they come to DC. I’ve been a Faith No More Fan since I was 14. I’m almost 28 now and I even have the dog from the King For A Day cover tatooed on my arm! I’ll drop the money to fly to Coachella if I have to but I’m hoping they play shows on the east coast.
Is it all just a big tease? Are they that cruel? I wish I was millionaire because I would personally pay them to tour North America!!!
One thing that occured to me while reading this is that fnm can do what prince did a couple years back and have residencies in busy areas. Prince played at the o2 in London for about a month and had people travel to him. He also did the same in Vegas and in LA. FNM could do the same for the major markets on both coasts and stay for two weeks at a time and I’m pretty sure they would see an increase in both profit and attendance. Also it would cut costs in traveling, renting of clubs and etc. If they did that and planned well in advance for fans to make accomadatioms, it would be a huge success.
Europe seems to be made for these big summer festivals. It’s more densely populated, transporatation is easier, people have much longer vacations. I can easily see why people can go to several festivals in different countries there with no real problem.
Not so much in the US. That is probably why festivals do so much better there than here, and they pay more. It also may explain why FNM got so much more exposure there in the early days to build a fan base. It’s becoming more understandable to me now, and I can’t blame the band for doing what they are doing for the most part.
sorry about the whining part, but i just can’t understand people thinking it ‘not fair’ if fnm doesn’t play somewhere, and that’s the feeling i get.
fyi, i’m not from the west coast, and i myself have 0 tickets for 0 concerts, and i sure hope to get some, if it’s remotely doable to get to the venue.
Lusty, I have private messaged stubbadub and they told me they “can’t disclosure any info on the us tour topic”.
I think the dates would have come by now, wasn’t for the new EU leg that popped up. They were probably offered these gigs after planning the US shows and that got in the way. You don’t just agree to tour Europe in a day. There’s a lot of negotiation and as we all know, EU pays better. They are big there, not as much in the US.
I am pretty sure this is the reason why we don’t have more US dates in the calendar YET.
They will come, though it might not be a handful. It is an absurd to assume they will skip NY. I have also been to Patton shows there and he has a huge following.
With that said, do not be surprised if they announce more South America dates in the near future. It will happen again.
Please please please PLEASE come to the East Coast! I am DYING to see them and surprise my lady friend with tickets. It would be a major let down if they didn’t pay us some love. DC would be preferable (as I doubt they would hit Richmond) but I’d be willing to drive to NYC. C’mon guys!
I can’t imagine them not playing more US dates. That would be really lame. I am one of the few fortunate ones going to the Warfield shows and that is only because I live here in Los Angeles. I would be really pissed if FNM didn’t show the east coast some love too. Especially since I am from Boston. Not everyone can afford flying cross country. They need to do more US dates. It kind of pisses me off actually that they haven’t mentioned anything as of yet. But, I don’t know the whole story. Maybe they are working out deals with venues. Either way, I have my fingers crossed for all of you.
Nick…peace man…didn’t mean to get under your skin…thanks for the kind words…take care……hopefully shows are coming your way brother!!!! Fingers crossed. Lusty…your a great mediator……thanks for keeping things positive…..I amso excited…steve I sent you mail check it out and get back to me.
They should play the Bonnaroo Festival in Tennessee… that would be hilarious! Hippie jokes galore to be had… They could also do All Points West, Warped Tour, Lollapalooza, et cetera.
I know they (ie Patton) have read this blog before, though I’m not sure about the comments, but it must be pretty amusing to have all of us speculating on them. But when they refuse to do interviews (except for those lucky SA newspapers), speculating is all we can do for now. I can understand though, because the minute they mention a possible new album, then they’ll feel the pressure and from my understanding, they really seem to hate that!
I’m still not holding my breath for an album, but it’s at least a good sign that the tour hasn’t come to an end. Means they aren’t hating each other yet.
All b.s.ing aside I can`t see them touring like this and not have any new material being thought up. I mean it looks like they are having a blast up there so hopefully they do release something new and yes…do a proper tour.
“Oooh, harsh. At least I won’t have to be stuck in the same room with someone like you.”
lol
Hear hear…I agree Lusty.
“I`ll be thinking about you when I`m on the floor at The Warfield April 14.”
Oooh, harsh. At least I won’t have to be stuck in the same room with someone like you.
