Faith No More scaled the heights in the elevated setting of the Gurtenfestival in Berne, Switzerland last night. Despite fatigue after their travel-heavy schedule on this leg and not being able to do a soundcheck, the band won over an initially reserved crowd with a heavier than usual set which included a surprise airing of Death March.
Mike Patton was in even more animated mood than usual. Eschewing his usual crowd surfing during Ben, instead he went for a ride on the tracking camera, at one stage donning the camera operator’s headphones as well. Later, he did go crowd surfing during Just a Man but got dropped by the audience and took a nasty fall. Undaunted, he returned to the stage and continued the song though he was limping heavily.
Thanks again to all the band and thanks and apologies to Tim “The Legend” Moss for being such a pain in the ass.

Lucky me I could enjoy the concert from the second line. There were some aggressive guys yes, but I don’t think it was so important. I thought if I want to be really there they shouldn’t bother me so they didn’t. I was worried too if Mike has been injured but thank God it didn’t seem to be serious. As I got it he felt ok during the show. I’m still shocked although I’m already home in Hungary, all the guys were fuckin’ amazing. The words “thank you” are not able to express…
**DEATH MARCH VIDEO**
as requested by a few people (finally found it this morning).
Thanks. It seems the band really appreciate which is gratifying and they have been more than helpful.
Oh right, but you’ve got to get what you need! This blog is the best out of all the Mike Patton and Faith No More related blogs out there. You do a great job.
No I was being a pain in the ass for him. Tim was even more helpful than usual at Gurten.
He tore his calf muscle early on in the tour last year.
Nice choices, Nathan. You pretty much summed up the majority of my list as well.
And that video of Patton’s backflip onto Puffy is great. What an awesome shot. Gotta love him.
oh my god! he killed puffy!
Unbelievable! What a sick bastard
That was amazing!!!
He is the best!!!!!!
Jesus, he just killed Puffy.
Looks like he decided to play it safe this time!
Mike seems to feel good….
I was in Gurten. The atmosphere was very strange. Some people were agressive and throught things on stage. Patton was stoned and angry, he punch a guy during his crowd surfing (I was near and you can see it on videos).Even if it was a good concert with a good setlist, I regret my choice beetween Gurten and Dour…
@Firsa – You’re right, the audience wasn’t exactly thriving with the usual enthusiasm were they? I’m sure his leg is okay, he’s used to all the bruising after all these years.
HD version, MUCH better quality
Why was Tim Moss being a pain in the ass? He’s always been nice to me (but maybe because I’m female).
Still, you got in and you deserve to be treated with full respect for doing this great blog because what counts is that the band ALL love it.
Ok so no video of it, but great to hear that they did Death March! So which songs that they haven’t done on the 2. coming tour, whould you people most like to see them do? Any album and period. Mine is roughly as follows (no particular order): R’n’R, Why do you bother, Smaller and smaller, Kindergarten, Everythings ruined, Absolute zero, The World is yours, Last to know, oh and maybe something crazy like Underwater Love or The Morning After just for shits and giggles….
@fernetpunker Seriously! Where’s that Death March vid!
Patton if your audience is looking THAT stoned, don’t jump on them. I still can’t believe they dropped him though…! Guntenfestival, you suck! \m/
p.s. admin~ I like the new white color scheme; it makes it easier to be sneaky while browsing at work 🙂
I dig the Midnight Cowboy into From Out of Nowhere, but Reunited worked so well when I saw them. Very curious as to the setlist for tomorrow night…
I agree on the site change – looks great. Very streamlined.
They’ve been doing the Midnight Cowboy -> From out of Nowhere setlist a lot recently.
I wonder if they’re going to close out Sunday night with that or Reunited.
Also, nice upgrade, Admin. So fresh and so clean …
Just a fan- and that’s exactly why he’s the best frontman ever. If at his age he still crowd surfs pretty much every show.
What happened?
I don’t get it, MP fell and then…
But the show seemed to be great according to the amazing setlist!!! Death March and This Guy… nice one!!! I didn’t how you people have reacted when they played Ben but in Dour, I just thought it was a bad joke… Ben No More, guys!! BEN NO FUCKIN’ MORE!!! hahahahhaha 😉
I read that he pulled a muscle in his leg. if you watch the Brixton vid clips, you’ll see Patton flailing around like a madman and going apeshit crazy similar to his Angel Dust tour era. He’s definitely had some amazing moments throughout this tour but judging on pure physicality, I haven’t seen anything close to how little regard he showed his body at that Brixton show. Right out of the fucking gate like a bull.
Death March! Is there a video from that?
I don’t know if I actually understand what happened here. Did the fall happen closer to the camera guy or closer to the stage? I didn’t notice him limping when he got back on stage. Hope this doesn’t put a damper on the remaining 2 shows…maybe they will tone it down a bit…then again….knowing them…they will pump it up for the big finale!!!!! Still holding out for a new one. 2 to go people…by the by…what happened at the very beginning of the tour in terms of Mike getting injured (a la Brixton Academy) does anyone know?
The video of the fall
