Slow, slow, slow on the Faith No More front so here is a quiet news update.
- Faith No More’s Midlife Crisis will be on Rock Band 3 according to a leak today. Here’s the full list.
- A bit late on this one after their Brooklyn date on 19 August (sorry) but check out New York-based Faith No More tribute band A Small Victory.
- Zeb is putting together a full video recording of the Faith No More Brooklyn show spliced together from fan videos posted on YouTube. His first three videos are already up. Taster below.
- Blast from the past time. Here’s Mike P and Roddy goofing around in an interview in Rio in 1990.
Oh wow, that cover band is absolutely awful. I thought it was going to get better, but…just wow. They should not do that ever again.
Just me or does A Small Victory sound terrible? They should probably stop…
I don’t know her but what a shame…RIP and my heart goes out to those poor kids. I lost my mom wen I was 12 so I know what they are going through.
^I know of her… I’ve seen her page on YT… What a tragedy; my thoughts are with her kids…
RIP Donna Gorslene aka Arstyfairie08 (on youtube). Such a sweetheart……a dedicated & loyal FNM fan.
She leaves behind 4 youngsters.
Alksyntrs – Bill and Roddy wouldn’t be the first Catholic educated boys to realize it’s all a bunch of horseshit.
It’s funny you say that Firsa, I also remember, when I was in high school, having a poster in my room with Patton wearing a t-shirt saying : “remember kids, satan love’s you”. It was from a magazine I have stolen (a Circus or a Hit Parade) during The Real Thing years…
@Alksyntrs: Your post actually reminded me of one of my few pre-reunion recollections of the band.
I had a Spin magazine subscription when I was in high school. One issue I particularly remember was the Dec. 1990 one which featured FNM as the Band of the Year. I think I linked it a while back but am too lazy to find it now 🙂 You can find it on Google Books.
The reason I remember it was that Mike P decided to wear to the photo shoot a pretty graphic sweatshirt depicting what a journalist later called “the second coming of Christ”. It had to be airbrushed out for the cover. It was kind of shocking to me at the time, which was why I remember it. I think it is pretty safe to say that Mike is very comfortable with his religious beliefs (or non-beliefs).
If it wasn’t so long ago, I’d almost think it had some influence on the reunion tour name…
With the reactionary positions of the catholic church about homosexuality, I bet that Roddy is away from it now. I also guess, regarding his collaboration with Jello Biafra that Bill is also dubious and critical thowards religions in general…
Bill and Roddy met at Catholic School–i read a long time ago
Thanks Firsa.
There is an allusion to “God” in Just a Man”. That time Patton showed his dick on the last tour (Brisbane), he also faked being a “kind of pentecotist” yelling Jesus on the floor (wich was pretty funny to me)! But he’s also wearing a cross on some pictures… He’s probably got interested by Aleister Crowley and Antonin Artaud through his work with John Zorn – Moonchild. Mr.Bungle’s Disco Volante tour was named “théâtre de la cruauté” (theater of cruelty), a reference to Artaud.
When regarding for any political view in FNM or Patton’s music, I cannot find any reference (but it might be because of the language barrier).
JONES!!!!!! Sweet JUSTICE!!!! Thanks so much!!! Downloading as we speak (type). Awesome…another fine reason why this site should never shut down….I LOVE IT!!!!!! NEW FNM……NEW FNM!!!!!!!
video 2 mp3!!! ahhhhh what a great site!!!
but not for long before the powers that be…take it away from us 🙁
@ Jones thanks for the links!
@ Alien Visionary at the last Warfiled show we were on the floor right at the front and I was screaming at the top of my lungs for them to play Why Do You Bother. I love that song!
My comment got lost up there somewhere, but I put the songs up on sendspace.
That would be awesome Firsa…thanks so much…I have tried to find the tracks on youtube….nothing…at all!!! http://www.video2mp3.net is an awesome sight…and very user friendly…Anyway…if you can figure it out…no pressure….thanks again for trying. Take care.
@ AV – I was meaning it as more of an expression of frustration for not finding the song than for the song itself. I’ve actually never listened to it – I’ll have to check it out.
@TiMort – I will try again tonight – it will be sort of an educational thing for me 🙂 Bolger’s link might work for ya, though.
@Alksyntrs – Drawing off of the only hint I have (Bill’s “Christmas” tweet where he says he is not a Christmas kind of guy); I would say that at least Bill is not Christian. I would venture to guess that the rest of them aren’t as well.
The band’s symbol, the Star of Lakshmi, is actually a Hindu good luck symbol; but that may be just a coincidence. I did ask about that for an interview question, so we’ll see. I’m almost positive that Roddy is not a Morman 🙂 , and I read somewhere that Patton likes to read Aleister Crowley’s works, so who knows what he’s into. Very interesting to think about; but we’ll probably never really know.
@Mike_Bolger thank you for that link…the 92′ Warfield “Why Do You Bother?” is pretty decent in mp3
I’m so looking firward to the fan made video of the Brooklyn show. Truly the best night of my life.
For anyone looking for random tracks, you can convert youtube files into mp3 files for free over here –

Hey Firsa…thanks for trying….I can’t get the rar files to work….any chance you could send them through send space…mp3 format…I know I can download those types of files as I have done them from this site before. Thanks a million for trying….really want those small victory tracks.
Sorry to jump to another subject! Maybe I should have ask it when we had the opportunity to ask the band members (or maybe not, because some might say that it’s not related to music) but I wonder if anyone knows something about the political ideas of the FNM guys. Also, are they atheist or religious? I remember that I read an excellent interview with Patton linked on this blog where it said that Patton’s music is apolitical… (and sorry for my poor english I guess it’s full of mistakes)
@integra yeah, any of those shows work. I’m sure a nice clean audio will eventually surface….
I’m always reluctant to comment on the quality of the musicianship as I know SFA but the vocals here are very impressive.
I bother because that song is one of the best from the Mosley era. The music is so unbelievably tight …….add Patton’s vox and that song becomes a monster.
Yo TiMort!

I dunno if it’s free or not…. hope this helps.
No luck finding “Why Do You Bother”, though. Aptly named 😛
I’ll be honest, that A Small Victory band sound pretty good to me. The keyboards are a bit weedy in parts but the singer’s voice is better than any Patton impersonator I’ve heard. Plus, it’s pretty clear they’ve been studying live recordings of FNM rather than trying to replicate the studio versions and that, to my mind, is what a cover band should do.
Good job!
Alien, do you mean this one?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tBDQLbabhno
I enjoyed A Small Victory, thanks for that, but I have to admit, “news” from FNM had been better.
Does anybody have an good clean audio of “Why Do You Bother?” circa 92-93?
I need this track. Who’s got it? Firsa, Integra, TI MORT…..somebody!
It will be good to have FNM songs in these games because people can rip out the master tracks of these songs and put up all the seperate tracks on youtube like they did with “Epic” its nice to hear each track on its own.
Does anyone have the “Small Victory” remixes…by???…Youth? If so, could you pretty please post them on the site so that I can download them. I totally forgot about these tracks. I love them….thanks in advance…..
I’ve been begging for some more Faith No More in either Rock Band or Guitar Hero. They’ve been in Rock Band before but I think they are yet to appear in Guitar Hero.
Okay, because the topic of Faith No More covers has been addressed, I must shamelessly plug my one-man cover of As The Worm Turns at http://www.myspace.com/dogflesh (it’s the seventh song down). I’m by no means a singer, but I tried my best! Or not.
How many lives does Puffy have left by now? Mike keeps trying to kill him…!
I saw A Small Victory after that BK show. Meh. Nice try. Sort of.
exactly John. there are many other bands that are hard to cover and F.N.M. is one of them. I mean, they are a band that do their cover versions better than the originals! every single band ive heard cover F.N.M’s music completely butchers it. there are a few good and interesting ones out there though but you know, they have that uber-unique quintet of creative energy that no others can ever come close to.
Great interview! They’re so sarcastic, I love it.
Lusty – super great about your friend’s dvd. Please keep us posted as to when it will be available!
covering FNM is hard people shouldn’t do it. period.
“you iraqi faggot theres a bomb in your sink” hahaha!
NO bands do this kind of stuff in interviews anymore
humour is dead in music. we all have to look serious and wear prada these days.
I know a guy who’s putting together a DVD of the Ilosaarirock show from various clips (my sidestage one of TRT included), similar to the vid above – hopefully that comes out soon, seems like it’ll be really good 🙂
Man, I used to have the Hard & Heavy videotape back in the 90’s, which is what that Mike/Roddy interview came off of. I don’t know how many times I watched it back then. Definitely a hilarious interview.
