what?
just put up “Virus” and we’ll all be happy…for a short amount of time 🙂
Yep, I am a habitual collector of all FNM side efforts (Conflict anyone?…Weird Little Boy?). And Bill is the guy that I’ve always wanted side work from. I like The Talking Book alot. But I will be skipping this one. I would personally love to hear more stuff from Bill that sounds like the FNM first recording tapes, or the orginial performance On Broadway with Joe on vocals (the base lines that run through there and the ethereal elements)…basically take The Talking Book and run some bass lines through it! No vocalist needed or wanted.
Sound Like Korn, I didnt really heard any bass part in the hole song
“Over the hills they came from the valley making innuendos about my lack of talent. Oh well…”
FUCK YOU I’LL SKATE TO THE BEACH!!
I guess nailing it is easy when you sound thoroughly bored and don’t have as much range as someone else? I can listen to songs of IY or whatever, but only when it’s on shuffle and I’m too busy/lazy to change it. Yeah, obviously I like Patton, but even if we were talking about two people from two different bands, then I’d still feel the same. I’m not gonna cover his ass and say he’s perfect live, he isn’t. But he is entertaining as fuck WHILE still being a really fucking good singer. I respect Chuck and I respect his fans, so I’m sorry if I’m coming across as a dick. I’m just really super picky about the music I like, and in most regards, vocals.
Thank you Integra for the post! No offense taken, but I fell in love with this band when Chuck was their singer. I still think “Introduce Yourself” is the strongest album from a 5-piece band…a key part was missing from their remaining albums (all of which are great, and I also love everything Patton is a part of). I just don’t see the negative aspects of Chuck’s live performances. Listen to that Amsterdam show in the correct speed or that St. Louis show, Chuck was fantastic when he was on. Patton has plenty of flubs and off-key moments in my opinion…listen to the entire Australia/South America part of the Reunion tour, or him doing “Death March” in Europe…his voice was hurting pretty bad in my opinion some nights (granted he’s over the hill now). All the Patton vs Chuck stuff is so silly…can’t we all agree to love them both (but wish that Patton hadn’t whined his way through “The Real Thing”)? I wish the guy who shot that IY clip would put the whole show up if he has it.
good god chuck was a fucking blowhard*
*no offense to any of you who like him
These side projects show what a democracy this band really was.
Looking at Munky Shaffer’s side project – it sounds just like Korn… Which makes me think there was a King Korn and it was Munky.
On the other hand FNM side projects sound nothing like the band… Roddy’s compositions are light and playful piano pop, Bill’s stuff is dark, heavy, grinding and cinematic, and Patton is a chamelion; his style tends to fuse with that of whomever he’s working with at the time.
My favorite FNM members’ side projects in order:
1. Will Rap Over Hard Rock For Food – Chuck Mosley & VUA
2. California – Mr. Bungle
3. What Is Not To Love – Imperial Teen
4. Book M – Secret Chiefs 3
5. Delirium Cordia – Fantomas
But they’re all always revolving in my mind…there have been some stinkers, but I’m mostly grateful that the FNM guys were so musically ambitious to put releases out. I would still be so motivated for a new FNM just to get writing contribution from Roddy (hadn’t really contributed much since Angel Dust) and hear more of what Hudson had come up with.
I still think having a differing perspective is pretty fucking funny. Again, the reason I “found” FNM was because I was on, I think it was, a Foo Fighters board and someone linked to a Tomahawk video. And thus my love for Tomahawk was born, which eventually branched out into many of Mike’s efforts. So, honestly, FNM was never the “best” for me, because I do not have a history associated with being a fan since the days of Chuck or whatever. However, I am still a big fan and think they’re one of the most consistent bands/projects in terms of progressing musically and for the better.
Oh, for the hell of it, do any of you have a last.fm?
haha! exactly. I dont think much of anything each member has done on their own, well maybe some Mr Bungle, Fantomas and Tomahawk with Mike Patton but all the best they’ve done is with FNM. I think thats the same with any band though.
It’s kind of funny that universal torture that all long time FNM fans have with checking out a FNM side project and just being turned off.
I was at the first Fantomas show at Slims just 2 weeks after FNM broke up. I had no idea what to expect but was excited because it’s probably the smallest San Francisco venue I had ever seen Patton perform in (at that time) and two songs into the set I remember thinking “Oh. This is what you’re going to be doing now. OK.”
I only listened because Billy was in it. Not that I really could hear him that much.
I’d rather hear at least one minute of “Virus” than anything Billy did with FATNS.
Happy Birthday Roddy!

Of course, Billy in FNM is infinitely better than any side project and he wouldn’t bring his particular FNM influence to this, because it’s a completly different style.
@Kevin Merrill: Don’t worry. I’m sure a new FNM album wouldn’t/won’t sound like this.
Happy Birthday to Roddy! [2]
Happy Birthday to Roddy!
I lasted until 2:25. If I hadn’t known Gould was involved I would have shut it down at 0:20.
Kurt Weill is famously quoted as saying “I have never acknowledged the difference between serious music and light music. There is only good music and bad music.”
There is plenty of good music that I respect but it just doesn’t grab me for whatever reason. However, I am certain that the FATNS song I just heard hits bang centre into the category of bad music.
Is that a recent photo? I read that the CD was recorded from one long jam session in 2008.
That is just a mind-blasting amount of buttons and dials…!
Yeah you can pretty much tell that it’s his. Dude needs to broaden up a bit.
This project is actually “Munky” Schaffers project. He just asked Billy to be involved.
Wow. Definitely seeing the Korny influences here. This is pretty horrible.
Calm down, the guy works on a lot of different sounding projects. You don’t have to like this one.
Sorry for the double post, but if this is what new FNM would sound like, I hope they never come out with a new album.
Sounds like Korn. You are better than this, Billy. See ‘We Care A Lot’ through ‘Album of the Year’ for examples.
It sounds too much like nu metal for me. Sorry…
