Faith No More singer Mike Patton will perform at the Hollywood Bowl as part of the Serge Gainsbourg Tribute – part of the KCRW World Festival – on Sunday night.
The tribute concert – led by Jean Claude Vannier and also featuring Beck, Ed Droste (Grizzly Bear), Victoria Legrand (Beach House), Sean Lennon and Charlotte Kemp Muhl (The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger), China Forbes (Pink Martini), Mike Patton (Faith No More), Nika Roza Danilova (Zola Jesus) – marks the 20th anniversary of the death of the French singer and composer.
The Los Angeles Times today reported: “Former Faith No More/Mr. Bungle vocalist Mike Patton remembers encountering Gainsbourg’s music one night on the radio and “was immediately awe-struck by the elegance, variety and detail of Serge’s ‘pop’ forms. It made me think that I had a lot to learn.” ”
Does anyone think Chuck Mosely bares a little resemblance to Fine Young Cannibal’s Roland Gift???
Wow! I wanna see/hear those 7 tunes! If anyone can list them…
On the tribute album released on Zorn’s label, the way Patton pronounces “chocolat” in Ford Mustang wasn’t right, on a french perspective. Usually we don’t pronounce the “t”. I don’t know if he meant it but it sounds good anyway.
I wish I could have be there! As usual.
No shitcocking way! Firsa, if you’re lying… 😛 Excited for any videos that pop up!
7 songs, huh. I hate you 🙂
And hey Jones, I read that Patton did a duet with Victoria! Probably on a couch, too :O
So glad I went! Patton performed no less than 7 tunes, more than any other performer that evening by my count. He performed Ford Mustang, L’hotel particulier(I think)… and, yeah, 5 others. Can’t wait for the recordings to start popping up.
And that little Beck guy actually sang his ass off tonight too!
Looking forward to any YT videos that surface.
Has Mike covered any other Gainsbourg song than “Ford Mustang”? It would be cool if he did something new, perhaps even a duet.
Whoa whoa whoa. Victoria is also gonna be there? AND I am not? Fucked up, man.
“Former Faith No More vocalist Mike Patton ….”
Former?
Way to go LA Times!
