Rolling Stone Argentina features an in-depth interview with Faith No More singer Mike Patton.
The interview mainly focuses on Mondo Cane and Mike’s upcoming Mondo Cane shows in Argentina on 17 and 18 September. But Mike also speaks about two impending prjects – preparing a new album with Tomahawk and putting the “finishing touches” to Nevermen with Tunde Adebimpe of TV On The Radio and Adam “Doseone” Drucker. He also speaks about not talking about Faith No More: “We are trying to focus on it and devote ourselves to enjoying the ritual of playing in each other’s company again. Not thinking about new albums and new recordings, simply the pleasure of being back together.”*

@ Nick “The mostly neglected north-eastern US”??? Ha! What about the far more neglected south-east US? I’m from North Carolina, and you guys got two NY shows and a Philly show! (I attended the Philly show – best night of my life). We got nada down here. We didn’t even get a show in a major city like Atlanta or someplace.
Or the even more neglected upper midwest. Play Chicago and Minneapolis, they will sell out, just play there.
Not agreed as above…
Yeah, actually, the more I think about it… the more I’d prefer it if they just gave up. It’s nice that they keep going to Chile and all or whatever, but I’m sure 99% of people would rather have Mike (or even them, eh) be productive and work on some new music rather than have FNM draw out a week or twos worth of shows while doing mostly nothing else. Maybe I’m overestimating, though.

the strangest thing ever
Agreed as above!
I’m in the mostly neglected north-eastern US. Whatever FNM thinks is best is fine by me. New material, another show, live DVD, I’ll take what I can get happily.
As long Fantômas, Tomahawk, Lovage and other Patton’s collaborations/projects are to come, I’m not suffering that much for not having a new FNM album. I’m sorry to admit it, but to me the FNM réunion is keeping Patton away from producing new material…
@Firsa as you said – either way, they got my money. I’d love to hear new songs, but if there’ll be no new material it’s fine for me. I just love this band and love is sometimes irrational 😉
The new Fantomas dvd was released today!
Funny thing is that they’ve already done about an albums worth of covers on this tour alone, so they’re still bringing new things to the table. I keep bouncing back and forth on this topic but lately I’m in the “no new album is fine by me” camp just because it breaks the rules of what you expect from a band when they get back together, almost an alternative to that rock star tradition you might say.
I was in the “don’t rush the process” line of thought last year. Now I’m starting to agree with what Rob is saying. Either way, they got my money.
I say put out a new album. Between the 5 of them they will produce some great material.
So, if they release a new album and it sucks complete ass, will everyone who shit their pants over them not making a new album yet kindly go fuck themselves? Probably not, but it would be ideal. Yeah, a new album would be cool, but there’s no reason for them to rush the process, whether they’re “not feeling it” or simply really don’t want to do it. I say they should’ve given up the reunion after the last show of the original tour, but then even more people would be upset. Whatever.
Making a wildly popular album is difficult. It is much easier to make bizarre music, and when people say it sucks, laugh and say they don’t get it. FNM is my favorite band but I don’t know if they have a good new album in them. As far as new U.S. shows, if they couldn’t drum up interest at the beginning of the reunion good luck now that it is 2 1/2 years in.
“We are trying to focus on it and devote ourselves to enjoying the ritual of playing in each other’s company again. Not thinking about new albums and new recordings, simply the pleasure of being back together.”
This line is getting real fucken old now. C’mon gentlemen. Remove right hand from dick. Remove left hand from wallet. Time to make some new music or give it the fuck up already. This reunion thing is getting stale.
They’ve been “back together” for over 2 1/2 years: that’s longer than most relationships 😛
Don’t they have an itch to make new material? I’d eat my shoe if they didn’t by now (and I don’t want to eat my shoe).
