You’re right Shakey. When someone hears music for the first time and loves it, it’s not nogsaltia even if it’s old music. It’s an experience that lasts a lifetime. I heard FNM when Epic first came out when I was a kid, so there is some nogsaltia for me, but I remember that it also turned me on to Sabbath because of War Pigs. Hearing those old Sabbath albums for the first time blew my mind. Great music truly is timeless and can rediscovered at any age/time without needing nostalgic love.
I agree Paths of Flory is a very powerful song, but maybe the band feel LIVE doesnt do it justice, like Ricochet which but the way is a fucking awesome tune, Why is it that they didnt play Malpractice fully?
Ashes To Ashes is a fucking brilliant song and better than anything on both AOTY and KFAD..
I sort of agree with integra. I do like ashes but I’ve always thought it had some tempo, timing, and lyrical issues, while last cup and strip-search are pitch perfect.
shit…Im going to the one in France and its only a half a days flight…might as well make a european vacation out of it!
Well, if the rumour is true I’m going to the one in France. 😀 *fingerscrossed*
Just checked it. It’s only 1 hour 30-drive from here. That’s nothing… Yeah!
Billy once described AOTY as their best work as a band and technically is probably is, i mean look at Stripsearch, its a masterpiece ! Its more complex than any other album they produced, but it dosent have the creativeness of AD or the energy of KFAD.
On topic… a new set of tour dates almost definitely means new material IMO.
Oops…make that WAS listening!!!!
Yes, I don’t rank AOTY as high as IY or AD or KFAD, but I still love this album. Pristina to me is as great a closing track as Spirit and Midnight Cowboy. I don’t expect everyone to agree, I just love that Song…especially considering what the song is about…Powerful stuff for FNM. I somewhat agree with Integra on Ashes, it’s too formulaic for this band, but that song comes alive with a crowd getting into the chorus. Alot of people have said Helpless is underrated and I agree. But I love Paths of Glory and it never seems to get much mention. When they played it in Amsterdam in 97 Jon played the hell out of that song and Patton sings it great live…don’t know why they cut it from live sets.
On the way home from work I wasn’t listening to their tunes with Sparks. More great playing by Jon. I feel like Patton peaked as a vocalist around 99-00 on the Bungle California tour and in the beginnings of Fantomas. Too bad FNM didn’t hand on for one more album back then, but a new album with this line will still be great. I love the guitar on Mystery Song.
Love “ashes”……….what about Pristina people?? Awesome track!
i dont see whats so good about “ashes to ashes”. never have. i always considered it to be a very average and uninteresting song for them.
Anyone read Juliet Naked by Nick Hornby?
Very interesting…
Did any one see Bills response to fnmargentina on facebook?
In brief
Will you keep going this year? Yes
What about the mystery song? More on that soon
People im thinking new album !
“Running on fumes.” Regurgitation of a bitter Mike Patton after FNM were over and interviewers were still asking him about FNM when all he wanted to talk about were his new projects. My how time changes the perspective… I think Mike realizes how great they are as a unit and now probably wishes he had not said things like that…it make doing things like new albums a whole lot easier.
AOTY Running on fumes? Stripsearch anybody?Fantastic track
It has become overwhelmingly obvious to me that FNM is really into being a band again. Which inevitably means new material.
Again…liking 1 album over another in FNM really has nothing to do with the guitarists. Another guitarist playing on KFAD would have been the same songs that Bill, Patton, and Puffy wrote. I like all the songs Jon helped write on AOTY. A new album would be like all other FNM albums…your first listen will be…”WTF is that?” Then you’ll start loving it. FNM albums always take you a little out of your element, that’s why they’re good. I hope it doesn’t sound like any prior stuff, just the same energy and talent. Mystery Song pulls that off so far…I hope it’s just the beginning!
Sonisphere UK forums are overwelmed with Faith No More rumours, have been for at least the past week and I only checked things out today. Oh well, there you go. I’m hoping on more of the Baltic states and anywhere NOT in the expensive Euro zone as it’s so much cheaper!
If they are doing more shows- it must mean they’re having a record (or something) in the works. Correct me if I am wrong, but hasn’t billy spoken about “not overstaying their welcome” on several occasions?
some peeps sure are picky. that`s 2.0. for you.
Come to Germany again, please.
I’ve just been in chat with a friend of mine from Paris and the France Sonisphere in Amneville is rather in the middle of nowhere compared to the UK site. Sonisphere UK is actually easy to get to by train from Kings Cross in London, so before everyone gets too excited, wait until the band actually announce any possible festival dates officially. When ready, they will have details here:
http://www.sonispherefestivals.com
Same weekend as UK Sonisphere at Knebworth Park which I work at every year, so I don’t care. Maybe the same bands will travel for both and play on different days, that’s possible. Faith No More didn’t actually do the UK date for Sonisphere in 2009, so about time they did.I hope they do a few of the other countries like they did 2009, because FNM did several of the dates on the Sonisphere that year and the performances were great, as with all the rest of the festivals they did in 2009 and 2010, they were amazing.
You mean the album that had “Last Cup”, “Ashes to Ashes”, “Helpless”? Running on fumes really?
A new album would have to be a great one because they have nothing to gain otherwise. AOTY lacked a lot of passion, IMO, because they were kind of running on fumes at that point. I think they kind of felt they had to release an album because of their record contract. That being said, I still wore that CD out because even a FNM not at 100% is better and more original than 99% of rock bands out there. I know a new album would be much better than AOTY because they would be doing it purely for the sake of the music.
I know I’ll be alone on this, but the idea of a new album does not excite me all, mainly because of Jon and well, most new albums put out by reunited bands tend to disappoint. Of course, Patton, Gould, Puffy and Roddy are not your typical famous “rock stars” who’s only interesting work stays in their most famous band.
And I got nothing against Jon, but I’ll take Jim Martin & Spruance over him any day. Their work in general (specifically Trey) is original, and what they contributed to FNM is timeless, unlike that of Album Of The Year. Or you know, it could work if Billy writes all the guitar parts? ha ha. Hope it’ll include some heavy tunes, the closest they really ever came to dropping the “metal” was on their last record… kinda, It did have some.
This is no accident, it seems they pave the way for new album. Smart guys…
Seriously? This would be year 4 of the reunion shows…new album?
