Puyol, thank you for your recap! I looks like Mike said the “eat the poopoo” line at soundwave also.
No, no Matador nor Motherfucker. The second encore was not to be.
Some loose impressions after a week or so:
I’m based in Osaka but was able to go to Tokyo and see both shows.
The opening day was kinda weird, FNM without keyboards, for 90% of the show. Everyone, including the band members, was expecting the keyboard trouble to be rectified any minute, constant anticipation of things going back to normal. During which, the band played virtually all no-keyboard songs, like Get Out and Surprise You’re Dead and all. It was unpolished and dirty and tense. The keyboards got fixed after an hour or so. Superhero to finish the show was sensational.
The second day, first of all there were 2-3 times as many people compared to the first day, for some reason. The band was relaxed after a soak in an onsen. They opened with Cone of Shame, which is an excellent new song and was definitely one of the highlights of the two shows. Cuckoo for Caca live was beyond belief. At the start of the show the lead singer Mark Payton went into one of his signature mongoloidal monologues, the theme being “Eat the Poopoo” this time. At some point not much later after that he got annoyed at some guy taking a video with his phone and took a crew member’s phone and took a 30 sec or so clip of the audience, during Midlife Crisis or Evidence, I don’t remember, saying “How does it feel?” or something like that. Toward the end of the show, it looked like the guys were getting tired – you know how onsen makes you sleepy after a while. I speculate that might have been the reason for giving up on the second encore, which is a conefull of shame as Motherfucker was on schedule.
All in all, unforgettable. Both nights, about 30% of the audience were 外人. So I didn’t feel special at all, in that respect.
The throat-chanting Japanese guy is Makigami Koichi, a well-known vocalist in Zorn’s circle:

Gonna need a few listens. Come of shame certainly doesn’t blow me away, that’s for sure…
Thanks again Puyol
