Bill shoots down Real Thing rumours

September 6th, 2011|Uncategorized|3 Comments

I knew I should have added a ? to that last post. Bill Gould has shot down the rumours emanating from Chile that Faith No More would play the Real Thing album at their Maquinaria festival date in Santiago in November.
Bill tweeted: “News Flash: Contrary to popular belief we will not be playing “The Real Thing” in it’s entirety in Chile.”

  • Happy birthday Mike Patton. The Faith No More front man turns 43 today 27 January. Best wishes Mike as we look forward to some new Patton music in 2011.
Rewind to our tributes from last year parts one and two.
  • We can confirm after checking with the band that the rumour that Faith No More are due to return to play the BBK Live festival in Bilbao again this summer is definitely not true. I’ve also managed to track down how the rumour started – a cautionary tale of Chinese whispers in the multilingual interconnected 21st century. Step 1) The Barcelona Reporter site reports that Coldplay are to play the festival and mentions that Pearl Jam, Depeche Mode, Primal Scream and Faith No More have previously played the festival. Step 2) Influential French blogger and radio presenter Zegut mistakenly reports that this quartet may be playing in 2011. Step 3) French music site L’esprit Rock reports on Twitter than Pearl Jam and FNM will be playing Bilbao. Step 4) Zegut’s post is updated minus the FNM and other band mentions.
  • As mentioned last time out, the Faith No More international store has new products and they tell me that they will be adding more t-shirts shortly.
  • As a lot of you will be aware from comments, there is a new FNM forum up and active.
  • Mike Patton’s Adult Themes for Voice is featured in an AV club piece on unconventional recording spaces. Sample quote: “The hotel room isn’t the rarest of recording settings, but Mike Patton put his own inimitably warped twist on the tradition during Faith No More’s 1995 world tour. While the rest of the band went out cavorting through a cornucopia of bona fide exotic locales—Sao Paolo, Tel Aviv, Vienna, Wollongong, and um, Jacksonville—Patton hunkered down with a TASCAM 4-Track Portastudio, a Gideon’s Bible, and an endlessly identical splay of hideous furnishings, creating his own unusual atmosphere using only one instrument: his voice.”

  • Apologies for the lack of updates; very busy at the minute but here goes with some overdue news.
Spotted this t-shirt in a bar in Geneva at the weekend. The guy wearing it did not know that these were Faith No More lyrics; he said he had heard them played when he had been watching wrestling on TV.
  • Mike P was on the Triple J radio station in Australia this morning. Stubbadub has all the news here. And you can listen to the interview.
  • Also in Australia, Mike gave a great interview to Vine magazine last week. Also good to see a journo doing his research and that certainly gets the best out of Mike. Sample quote: “[On Mondo Cane’s chart success] That was a real surprise, and I’ve had quite the hearty belly laugh over it. I’m proud. It’s funny, it’s a nice achievement but it also just proves that you never know. And the world is an absurd place.”
  • Mike and Mondo Cane will be playing in the UK after all with an appearance at the Big Chill festival on 5-8 August in Herefordshire.
  • The poster for the Faith No More’s Williamsburg Waterfront show on 2 July  – by Tara McPherson – has been revealed:

As usual, the poster will go on sale at Secret Serpents – from 3 July.
  • The death of the iconic Dennis Hopper reminded me of this: Mike Patton’s acting debut in Firecracker, which was originally slated to feature the Easy Rider star.

Faith No More in Auckland set list, Crowded House cover and more

February 19th, 2010|Uncategorized|24 Comments

Apologies for the late post but I very much enjoyed the hospitality at the Fulham v Shakhtar UEFA Europa League match in London last night and the hospitality after that and again after that. Anyway, here’s the update on last night’s gig in Auckland, where Faith No More performed Don’t Dream it’s Over twice. I do like Crowded House so it was a delight to see these.

Videos:

Reviews:
The New Zealand Herald review takes issue with the short set.  Sample quote: “And there were a clutch of songs mid way through that are testament to Faith No More’s longevity and standing. It’s hard to top the mangled metal serenade of Ashes to Ashes and the lovely Midlife Crisis; then there’s maniacal late 80s track Surprise! You’re Dead!; and, from the same period, rap’n’roll classic Epic.”

The Stuff.no.nz review isn’t loading for me at the minute but here’s the link.

Set list:
Reunited
From Out of Nowhere
Land of Sunshine
Caffeine
Evidence
The Gentle Art of Making Enemies
Chinese Arithmetic/Poker Face

Coachella announcement and Faith No More hint

January 19th, 2010|Uncategorized|0 Comments

It seems that the big pre-Coachella festival announcement leak didn’t happen this year with the Coachella Twitter confirming that the line-up will be announced on Tuesday “during waking hours”. The Consequence of Sound blog has updated that the line-up wil be announced at 0715 am PST on KROQ and the LA Times.

KROQ will certainly have the official announcement during the Kevin and Bean show between 5 and 10am and KROQ DJ Nicole Alvarez has hinted that Faith No More will be playing in a comment here.
