  • We announced this a while back but the date and time of the free Mondo Cane Hardly Strictly Bluegrass festival show in San Francisco has now been confirmed. According to the Ipecac website, “Mondo Cane is currently scheduled to play at 5:20 pm on Sunday October 3rd on the Star stage right after Elvis Costello. Don’t miss this very special event. You are all on the guest list!!!!! Bring a picnic.”
  • Trevor Dunn (ex-Mr Bungle) recalls a Faith No More show with Mike Patton:
  • Felipe Arratia, a reporter for Chilean radio station Sonar FM, is trailing an interview with Mike Bordin:
: “50 minutos al teléfono con el legendario Mike Bordin de Faith No More. Una de las mejores entrevistas de mi vida.”VIENEN GRANDES NOTICIAS
In another Tweet, Felipe responded to a question about a new album: “No, man. He told me they did some jam sessions and came with some ideas together. But no new album plans on the horizon.”

Happy birthday Puffy

November 28th, 2009|Faith No More|19 Comments

The man who belied that drummer hanging out with musicians gag and the man who makes FNM tick, the one and only Mike “Puffy” Bordin celebrates (or at least we do on his behalf) his 47th birthday today. Puff was an original member of the band and his distinctive drumming set the tone for the group right from the off. His soul may have been metal but the Ganeshian drummer had and has the skill and mind set to drive FNM in any direction.

As Mike P would chastise, Mike is also, of course, Ozzy’s drummer, recognition that we is feted by his peers as one of the greatest metal percussionists of all time.

Mike in video:

Puffy facts (not all are true)

  • A left-handed drummer who plays right-handed kit
  • Along with Billy, was an original member of FNM precursors Faith No Man
  • Made dreads cool again for white guys
  • First dreadhead to live long enough to show that dreads look cooler in silver
  • Competed in Who Wants to be a Millionaire
  • Taught the Little Drummer Boy how to play

Puffy interview in Peru press

They’re all at it now. El Comercio in Peru today features an interview with Faith No More drummer Mike “Puffy” Bordin. Puffy speaks about Jerry Cantrell from Alice in Chains, his drumming influences and his admiration for Mike Patton – “his voice is a gift from God”. However, perhaps the most interesting snippet is the final question of the interview:
“Finally, what are Faith No More’s personal plans?:
[Puffy Bordin] Faith No More has tried to be very honest about this: we are not doing many shows. The people in Lima have the opportunity to see Faith No More before people in New York or Los Angeles. And we’re doing it because we want to. We have no big plans, we are just doing shows and playing to see how we feel. If something happens later, it will be because our schedules match and because we all want to. There are no plans to make an album, we are just going to do some shows. For now the doors are closed but not secure. My more immediate plan is to return to play with Ozzy, we have work next year, to finish the new album.”
If anyone can make a more exact translation than my Google and other software effort, please let me know.

UPDATE: Santiago’s very own Parxi has translated most of the article here. Thanks.

URGENT. Mike Patton and Mondo Cane are not playing Paris in February 2010. Ipecac Records have issued the following statement: “It has come to our attention that tickets are being sold for Mike Patton’s Mondo Cane in Paris on February 19 & 20. Unfortunately these dates are not correct. Mike did not agree to these dates. If you bought tickets, please get a refund. We are working on getting the correct dates.” Phew, I was just about to book tickets for this.

Pete Turner the bassist of the excellent Elbow has outed himself as a Faith No More fan. Quizzed on his musical tastes by his localpaper The Bury Times, he said: “I’ve been revisiting Faith No More a little bit with them playing recently.”

Interesting Puffy interview from The Guitar Center. Dateline is April 2009 but as Mike speaks only about Ozzy Osbourne and not the FNM reunion I assume it actually dates from earlier. Sample quote: “I like to keep in shape by moving 150- to 200-pound rocks.I’ll build a wall with rocks or dig out a couple of yards of soil, chop down trees, and stack wood. Ozzy thinks it’s hilarious. I live north of San Francisco, which is an outdoor paradise, but I’m not an exercise guy. I won’t go to the gym because I’ve been told that weight training develops the wrong kind of muscles for playing drums.”

Faith No More as style icons. Here’s a somewhat tongue-in-cheek look back at FNM fashion.
