I’m not usually one for evangelising for Faith No More – music is such a subjective thing – but fan Bobby B Better has emailed me with this excellent idea and, as he has done all the work for me, here’s how you can help spread the word of Faith No More to the American media.
Here’s Bobby’s mail in full:
“So finally the US tour is becoming a reality. I know we are all excited. As I see it, if we are to have any hope of any new material, future tours, etc., the US tour has got to be a great success. As you can see by Faith No More’s non-headlining status at Coachella and the lack of media interest, it’s going to be an uphill battle. The only consistant radio play they get in the US is Epic. Once in a blue moon you might hear Midlife Crisis or Last Cup of Sorrow and that’s it. They are going to need all the help they can get.
My suggestion is that we, the fans, blitz the media with requests for Faith No More in support of their tour. We are fortunate in the US to have quite a few national media venues that could feature them (and have featured them in the past). I am sure they will play New York and Los Angeles (where most of these shows are taped) and would be able to appear while on tour. I have compiled a list below and how to request an appearance, more airplay, etc. If you can think of any more, please post them here. Believe it or not, fan e-mail campaigns have influenced programming in the past (i.e. the 2nd season of Jericho). I also encourage all of you to request (e-mail, phone, etc.) FNM at your local House of Blues, other concert venues, radio stations, magazines, etc. Just remember that every airplay, appearance, and interview is an advertisement for the band which can contribute to a sucessful tour. Anyways, it can’t hurt.”

Has anyone heard if they will be doing any “non festival” type shows? To be really honest…I don’t care to stand around all day (although I will if I’m forced) for 2 hours of FNM happiness.
Off topic: I’m still kicking myself for missing a live Jerry Cantrell show a few years ago.
On topic: As far as publicity goes, I think how they perform at Coachella will be key. Who cares about the short set – it does not take a lot of songs to convince people that you rock their face off. Then all of the newly educated will tell their friends about it, and they will tell their friends, and so on – just like a bad shampoo commercial.
Faith no more is big overseas because they toured extensively when they were at the height of their popularity. Most bands from the US ignore everything but the huge festivals overseas. Faith no more played tons of smaller venues all over europe, that is where you win fans, not at festivals. Plus it seems Faith no more’s entire catalog was played overseas, in the US they are known as one hit wonders. Except for those of us who know better and listened on our own.
Excellent. The old songs sounded great and the vocals were very, very similar to Layne’s. I don’t think they had any new material at the time I saw them but I like the single off the new album. The new singer has worked with Jerry Cantrell on his side projects in years past.
What is wrong with all of you. Grow up! All of your thoughts are mere speculation. For god sakes, some of you sound like your related to the band. You have no idea what the boys have planned. Wether it is for the money, glory, self esteem, or the fact that they simply felt like it…it is here…it is happening!!!
Haha. People here are so intense!
@ Bobby B Better: How were Alice in Chains with the new singer? I’m toying the idea of seeing them live…
Play nice people
Might have got lost in the server switch – will republish later
Well damn i really come from a country that appreciates their their music I am so glad I am aussie……..i have never read so much bullshit who gives a fuck about media coverage or am i mistakin i thought rock was about stickin it to the man……….FNM were never mainstream never will be what fucking plantet are you guys from…….Toni: Any fnm member would be ashamed to know that they have such a sad whinging pussy as a fan..GO BOIL THE KETTLE AND MAKE A NICE HOT CUP OF HARDEN THE FUCK UP!!!!!……If my oppinion gets me barred so be it coz fuck man it needed to be said…….
You have to wonder why Faith No More reunited, I think if they just tour and call it quits it was all for money. If the band has any future together they will go into the studio and record some new music. I hope they tour the US but if they do not thank God for Youtube. The last time I saw Faith No More was in Las Vegas in 1997 and Limp Bizkit opened for them. I remember people saying I can’t for them to play Epic. I also remember meeting some Aussie’s there who need every word to every song. Why is it they are so big overseas? Is it really because of the media? Looking forward to hearing some opinions…
As far as their “co-headlining” status at Coachella, I think that remains to be seen. If Muse and FNM are playing on the same stage, then they are definately not co-headliners. Their set will be cut short, no encore, etc. Even if they are not, I do agree that 2nd billing is definately a good position for them considering their popularity (or lack thereof) in the US. I saw them on their last US tour in 97 at a festival where they were 2nd billing to Helmet. It was a great show but the short set list was definately dissapointing. Given that they haven’t been around in 12 years and are returning without a new album, its pretty much expected. I saw Alice in Chains at a festival a couple of years ago when they reunited with their new singer (before the new album came out). They were 3rd or 4th billing if I remember correctly and their popuarity far outweighs FNM’s in the US.
Hey, where did Links For A Day from January 12th go? You know, the one with the YouTube link to FNM’s Conan O’Brien/Max Weinberg sketch?
Douche: Because I love them and I saw them live 3 times last summer 🙂 I just wish they (or at least Patton) would be a bit more humble and respectful. But you’re right man.
Saw what the Jericho fans did; have to say they were more than a little resourceful:

Now, what can we send 20 tons of to Live Nation HQ? 😀
Toni: Then why are you even bothering with them anymore if they made you shit your pants with sadness so badly?

Live Daily article on Coachella. Big call out for the main bands + Pavement’s return.
Not a word about FNM’s comeback to the US. Zero. Nada.
And people wonder why they played the whole rest of the world first….
Use Twitter guys. Lets find a hashtag and contact radio and TV stations via twitter and/or Facebook. My guess.
…And GOD how I wish I’m proven wrong in the future!
I doubt that the band cares about how the success of the US tour is. It’s not gonna be huge because Americans just don’t care. Especially Patton and Bordin are overtly excited to go back to their previous stuff. Bordin with (blah) Ozzy and Patton with all his equally redundant and lifeless projects. I’m sorry but I just feel bad for all the hardcore FNM fans out there. We cared, they took our money and even forgot the lyrics in the process.
Contacting House of Blues is a great idea too! I have seen Patton play at HOB in New Orleans with Mr. Bungle, Fantomas and Tomahawk so it seems there is a decent relationship there. I plan on contacting HOB in New Orleans!
Just remember kiddies, try not to request Epic!
OK, twist my arm already 🙂 I will blitz the media!
Sirius seems like a good place to start.
I started bugging the radio stations in Washington State and Oregon a few months ago about getting them in town and playing them more on the radio…maybe I’ll start up again 🙂
I think the problem with them playing on late night talk shows is:
A) Usually bands have a new album to promote, not a tour (though not always the case…I can’t remember if The Police or The Who made appearances)
and
B) Would they even WANT to play on TV? Seems like they are really sticking to their guns about this zero PR, press embargo. Not sure why but I’ll assume the band is exactly where they want to be.
That said, I would love to see them on Conan again…OH WAIT. damn.
PS Sirius’s 90’s alt channel has been very good at playing a variety of fnm songs so far.
It’s a great idea. It’s weird watching all these 12+ year old FNM interviews and TV performances on youtube back when MTV used to actually talk about music, play videos, and interview musicians. The landscape is completely different these days. It seems like people only want to talk about the latest Jersey Shore trainwreck or who hurt Eminem’s feelings this week. If you have time to comment on this message board you can take a moment to write to any of these people (I’m still rooting for FNM on Letterman) . Let them know that there’s an audience for this band and that’s motivation to give them some airtime.
… http://www.coachella.com/images/mainPoster.jpg – for a band that hasn’t played live in USA for > 10 years, they are 2nd on bill!!
Awesome news
“As you can see by Faith No More’s non-headlining status at Coachella….”
They are co-headlining with Muse (one of the most famous rock bands of recent times…)…. not exactly bottom of the bill!!
