Faith No More have just finished their US return at the Warfield Theatre in San Francisco.
They played four encores but there were no new songs or surprises in the set list.

San Jose Mercury
Sample quote: “They were sarcastic, loud, obnoxious, funky, fearless, smarmy, weird, aggressive, unique, ironic, inspirational, apathetic, long-winded and sincere. And that was just one show. That answers whether Faith No More is still Faith No More. After more than a decade away from its hometown, one of the most joyfully schizophrenic and occasionally frustrating bands in the universe kicked off the American phase of its mini-world tour Monday at the Warfield in San Francisco — the first of three sold-out shows.”
NBC Bay Arena
Sample quote: ““We’re trying to do some hometown s**t and its all a bunch of foreigners,” Patton admitted when he realized the huge out-of-town contingent in the audience…As the show came to a close around midnight, the band left things up in the air, with no plans of writing new material or playing again after this Faith No More 2.0 experiment expires. We’ll just have to wait and see.”
Rolling Stone
Sample quote: “Faith No More’s members may now all be middle-aged, but they still keep their tunes loony.”
San Francisco Bay Area Concerts
Sample quote: “Incredibly, the band moved effortlessly between lounge-y ballads and thrash metal hardcore riffs. And at one point in the evening, mashing their early classic from 1987, ‘Chinese Arithmetic’ with Lady Gaga’s “Pokerface”.”

^ And they didn’t even play Be Aggressive! What a missed opportunity!
Uh, so it turns out I was wrong! I’m watching about 25 high school cheerleaders at the warfield!
Watching the white trash debutantes. They’re uh, interesting. Ok, rocky horror, I can dig this.
Watching the white trash debutantes. They’re uh, interesting.
It is regular cheerleaders people!! They had clog dancers the night before. I went to El Camino High in SSF when growing up and it makes sense that they’d use cheerleaders as a lead into Aggressive. Cheerleaders perform from 9:10 – 9:30 tonight, 20 minutes not an hour. Sorry no BR!
Dude, I hope your right! The only reason I could see Cheerleaders being there is to sing the chorus on Be Aggressive, but I can’t imagine seeing Cheerleaders perform for an hour!
I sure will SeanL, but keep in mind that a guy on the Coachella board emailed the school and asked about the performance, and the head coach replied she had no idea what he was talking about. Again, the cheerleaders themselves have said that they are not performing.
Besides, do you really think they are going to put 15-17 year old girls on at concert like this… for an hour? No way. It’s BR.
But yeah, I will definitely feel silly if I’m wrong. 🙂
Chinese Arithmetics is a fucking great piece of music!
Hey guys, are any of you smokers? My friend who is going with me is, and I wanted to know if there is a smoking area there. If there’s not, what does one do? Is there reentry, so he can go outside and come back?
Bad Religion + Faith no more! I hope some religious freak doesn’t bomb us tonight
Jason G, you sure are gonna feel silly if it turns out to be Cheer Leaders!
The Ben cover from Tuesday night:
And Eric, remember that they said ‘El Camino REAL High School’, of which there is only one, the one that members of BR went to. Here’s the link to notable ECRHS notable alumni: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/El_Camino_Real_High_School#Notable_alumni
I’m tellin’ you guys, it’s gonna be Bad Religion. Everyone owes me a beer. I’ll be at Showdogs across the street from The Warfield before the show. 😉
And here are my hotos of Monday’s gig: http://picasaweb.google.com/102535195502655642415/FaithNoMoreWarfieldSanFrancisco#
Hey Jason! Nice seeing you here. Tonight (Tuesday) was awesome too. Will hold off until the admin opens a new topic so I will post my review. Pics coming tomorrow.
The Rolling Stone review above mentions multiple cameras…
Wow…the Bad Religion theory has me intrigued. I mean, there IS an El Camino High School in South SF, but if they’re talking about big surprises on Wednesday, there’s gotta be something more than that.
I didn’t even think that there was any real connection between the two bands, but looking on Wikipedia it just so happens that Bill has a side band with Brooks Wackerman, the drummer from BR: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fear_and_the_Nervous_System
That Patton pic is amazing!!!! I would make a great DVD cover or back cover….
You can see a camera in the “Chinese Arithemtic” video… I wonder if there were more….
Great writeup, Tbrandao. I was the guy to your right in the white jacket. See ya Wednesday!
I’m telling you Mike, all the hints point to it. The only ‘notable alumni’ from El Camino Real High School (at least from a rock music standpoint) are the members of Bad Religion.
Furthermore, if you check Bad Religion’s website, they are starting their ’30 Years together’ tour the following day in Anaheim. I believe this will be a practice show of sorts.
Take a look at ‘Tour Dates & Events’ on the right hand side of the page:

Someday, i can hope that maybe…just maybe…they will do something about that repetitive overused, same old same old set list. come on FNM you have ALOT more other songs that we all would love to hear.
You know what, you might be onto something Jason G.
Bad Religion + Faith No More on Wednesday night. That would be a hell of a show.
great show last night. going again tonight and tomorrow. i have an extra balcony regular price ticket for tonight since my friend can’t go if anyone is interested email me.
This was my first time seeing Faith No More after having listened to them for decades. I have never been so high on this band as I am after seeing them live. One of the best live bands I’ve ever seen. Patten is the real deal – he can sing anything and everything and flows flawlessly from one style to the next. His beat box is anything but cheesy and his vocal range is among the best in rock.
The best thing about FTM was that they still sound current and relevant – all the eclectic cool that Muse tries to be without the pretention. All the heavy crunchy metal rock of the best of the era, while having the ability to seamlessly flow into Lionel Richie and play it convincingly. Coming out with Reunited was touching in a way that had the whole room smiling and singing along.
Patten is a master stage performer – he had the audience immediately in the palm of his hand, and a Monday night sellout crowd was on their feet the entire show.
I cannot say enough about how impressive this gig was, and I am really hoping it’s not a 1-time deal. This band should be playing arenas, as they more than filled the tiny Warfield with sound. It was like when I saw Tool there – just too small of a room for this huge of a band. Hopefully they’ll keep on playing because this is one of the tightest live bands you’ll see today, and 13 years later they rock every bit as hard as ever, and harder than many contemporary bands that try to be all the things FTM really is.
5 stars – incredible show. 4 encores was 5 encores too few. Simply fantastic. Words don’t do it justice.
Last night was intense, loved every bit of it. The entrance door had “No Camera” in it. but we were allowed to take it.
Nice! That sounds good to me, I’m gonna get a couple. I’ve got to commemorate my first and possibly last time seeing FNM!
SeanL, they are even and they do take credit cards.
As far as the setlist, it was a pretty damn good one! Maybe the lack of “surprises” is only due to the band’s speech as to “we know the fans bought tickets for Wed first and we will act accordingly”. There will def. be surprises, but how can anyone complain about last night’s show I have no idea. It was brilliant. Simply put.
Shirts were all $30, hat was $25 and signed poster $60.
Yes, you can bring cameras. The policy usually restricts it to point and shoot only, though.
As far as video cameras, yeah I saw some too, but I think this happens in every concert, no?
Really looking forward to tonight, and thanks for all the info. One question… What time did FNM take the stage?
I’ve got 50 bucks atm…I gotta get another 10 so I can get two shirts! Are they 30 even or is there tax?
30 bucks for tshirts folks. Managable, but hey, it’s friggin FNM!!
As far as Wed surprise I vote for Ozzy and Mike Patton combo for war pigs
I’m going the next 2 nights and i’m wondering if we can bring cameras inside?
MUST… SEE… THE VIDS…!!!
I really have to see it according to aaaaaall the tweets I read about!!! It was massive!!! I wanna see those vids so bad!!! Hasty to be in July and see them in Spain!!
How much did the shirts and other merch cost? I’d like to plan accordingly! 😉
Is it true that there were some cameramen at the Warfield yesterday? A friend told me there’s a possibility that a DVD is going to come out of these concerts.
I’ve only seen a few clips of Neil Hamburger on YouTube, but I always thought his whole gimmick was to be unfunny and piss people off (kind of like an Andy Kaufman thing or something).
Otherwise, I have to say I am a little disappointed by the setlist. I was hoping they’d play at least one surprise/obscure song. Maybe I was setting my hopes a little too high. Oh well, there’s still two more nights to go.
I agree with post 4
Neil Hamburger is the most unfunniest person i have ever seen. At our Australian concerts he was boo’d like no one has been boo’d before, people kept throwing bottles, coins and whatever they could get there hands on at him, he really put the concert on a downer. The Faith no more hit the stage and we all had a blast.
Get rid of Neil, he is a waste of space !
I think I’ve figured out who the special guest is for Wednesday.
Bad Religion.
Here’s why: The members all went to school at El Camino Real High School (hench, El Camino Real High School Cheerleaders). They start their ’30 year tour’ the following day in Anaheim.
You heard it hear first. 😉
The show was unbelievably good…awesome setlist.great vibe..would have liked to see ‘the real thing’ live or possibly more ‘angel dust’ material…hopefully they will play different songs on wed…I wanna see ‘I started a joke’ and ‘pristina’ too!!

So here is my impression of the night.. Got in the theater as Pop-O-Pies took the stage. Merchandise line was ridiculously long so I missed their show. Got myself 3 shirts (Happy BDay red one, Warfield Special shirt and the blueish logo one). I took the pic you guys saw here on the blog from a guy who was next to me, as I already had that orange logo one. Will post the pics later. Oh, I got the signed poster too. They really were limited and I got the second last one.
As I go in, I find it surprisingly easy to walk to the first row. Man, the US really is different than Brazil.. 🙂 I was right in front of Jon and the amp was right into my ears. I am seriously not hearing a thing. I literally couldn’t order a pizza from the hotel as I can’t hear what the lady says… Anyways, trainees were next. How bizarre. First “act” was a trio dancing to Tool… second one has a Jesus braking a cross while fat performers licked each others tits.. anyways, there were 4 of 5 numbers.
Neil Hamburger is lame and overrated IMHO. Some “ok” jokes, and quite a few about Courtney Love, which surprised me. The roadies took at least 5 minutes tuning an acoustic guitar before FNM and I thought she would join them at some point, but Neil’s jokes such as “what is the difference between C.Love and the American flag? Well, you are not supposed to piss on the flag” ruined my expectations.
So it is time for FNM. Reunited is the first number. Awesome. Like I tweeted after the concert, there were no “surprises”. I read someone saying the played Smaller and Smaller, but they didn’t. As SetlistFM will beat me to it, I won’t waste time trying to remember the order, but songs they def. played were: Reunited/OutofNowhere/Land of Sunshine/Caffeine/Evidence/Chinese A (Poker Face)/Cuckoo/Ashes/Easy/Midlife (stevie wonder)/Gentle At/Digging/KFAD/Just a Man/This Guy/We Care a Lot/Introduce Yourself/Last Cup/Stripsearch (Chariots).
I am not sure if it will be different at the other nights (I will be there and will report back after the concerts), but it doesn’t look like they will be doing an ode to themselves, adding Chuck Mosley, etc to the bill. They made a few jokes about being old, asked the crowd who was from out of town, but that was it.
MP stagedive in Evidence was very unexpected.. haha a mellow song and he flips in the air on top of everybody. I got good pics, mostly of Jon and MP. Jon is a funny guy with lots of face expressions. It was the first time I saw him live.
Rather than that, the Warfield is the perfect venue to see them. If you weren’t there tonight and will be going to one of the next nights, be prepared. It will be awesome. Small venue, questionable sound, but perfect for a laid-back non-festival FNM gig.
I will find a way to share the pics with you’all!
There was something before diggin. I can’t remember
