The quiet man of Faith No More, guitarist Jon Hudson celebrated his birthday yesterday so best wishes to the under-appreciated axeman.
Here is Faith No More’s own onstage tribute to John (Thanks to the filmer and all who sent via Twitter and Kat in comments.

Here’s Stripsearch, chiefly penned by the man himself:

Finally, Faith No More 2.0 with Jon in the Czech Republic last year and what a gent he was
Hey Jon, congratulations on your success with FNM. It seems like not long ago we were sitting around with our guitars at your house just throwing down little jams and making fun of Mr. Snow. Good luck in your travels and I will see you when you guys get to the Bay Area.
happy belated birthday jon, I am a guitartist with a band called myth of the crow, and I must tell you fnm has always been my favorite band but album of the year is my favorite guitarists album of all time, your tone and tremolo work are incredible and your patience with waiting in the pocket really blow me away on this album I will cherish that album and your incredible talents for a lifetime, thank you jon!
Well shoot – I missed this… Happy belated birthday Jon! You are an anchor for the band. Rock on!
Jim Martin will always be my favorite FNM guitarist (I’ve just always been a big fan of his guitar tone and solos), but Jon is great too. Where I give Jon a lot of credit is that he had to learn and play guitar parts by two different guitar players and he pretty much nails them flawlessly live. I’ve always wondered if Jon could pull off Jim’s solo from “The Cowboy Song,” as that’s one of my favorite guitar solos ever. But given that FNM has never played it live, I guess we’ll never know, haha.
Wow! Thats the most I have ever heard John talk! He’s the best guitarist for them after Jim Martin.
I always thought Trey and Dean didnt really suit FNM. They need an axeman with a straight up no frills jack hammer on the top style of playing. That’s John Hudson. check out his old band Systems Collapse.
Happy Birthday Jon!!!
I adore Jon I really don’t understand why he is so under-appreciated. He seems to be such a nice, cool guy. Happy birthday 🙂
HAPPY BIRTHDAY JON!! JOYEUX ANNIVERSAIRE!!! 😀
I agree with you when you say that he’s a nice guy cause he really is!! I met him at Rock en Seine and yeah, he was really nice, polite and he totally rocks!!! I think he’s a better guitarist than Big Jim (even Big Jim was really great) and his shreds blew my metalhead mind up and in a very positive way!!! He was OK for the pics and signing autographs and he’s also simple. He’s not playing the rockstars at all and I’m hasty to see the band again in Madrid!! That will be aaaaaawesome!!
Anyway, I don’t understand why he’s sometimes under-estimated as Grant said but I totally agree with you: he wrote great songs and AOTY is probably one of the album with the more interesting things to say thanks to all the experimentations they did in this record!! Jon is THE MAN, happy birthday fucker 😉
Happy Birthday Jon!
PD: Absolutly cool pic with Jon, admin. Do you have more of this?
I met Jon after FNM’s 97 Roseland gig in NYC, and he was very cordial. Nice guy who stuck around and signed autographs and took pictures with people. He was even good-natured about someone asking him if he’d ever been told he looked like Sting…he had a very funny reaction.
Jon adds a lot of his own subtle flourishes to FNM’s older catalogue, and his songs written with the band stand up as some of their best…he is surely under-appreciated, but I thought it was very cool that he was the axeman that got to be part of version 2.0. I can’t wait to see him live with the band in NY…
HAPPY BIRTHDAY JH!!
