Bill Gould’s first somewhat solo release The Talking Book with Jared Blum is now available for pre-order through Amazon. The album will be released on 24 May 2011.
And here is an early review of the release from Fluid Radio – “Dark drones rumble underneath the tracks, while grainy guitars hint to long forgotten melodies of lonesome americana nostalgia. Distant voices flicker here and there creating a ghostly, haunting tension…“The Talking Book” is an album that shouldn’t be missed.”
I was waiting for Kadaa to start singing during those snippets. Not what I expected from GOULD. Rather hear him rocking playing bass. Kinda a bummer to be honest. Need a context for that music…
AWESOME sounds, Bill!!!!!
Very atmospheric. I think the sample snippets rather work against it because I’d be interested to hear the transition between the songs (there’s the bait, I guess).
And I agree w/ you Alk, it sounds very much like a soundtrack, maybe for a video game… Post-apocalyptic muted industrial echo-reverb with a grainy, lo-fi overscuffage. Makes me think of Silent Hill…
In other words, I like it 🙂 It would be interesting to see how it plays out in a club setting.
I agree with everything Benrun said, I feel the same way about FNM!!!
…thought Crime & dissonance is not only “dark”. I should have add “weird”! Or “cinematographic”.
But here, we’re all used to it, no?
Anyway, let’s wait till May 24th. Thanks Mr.Gould!
For what I’ve heard on Amazone, it kind of look like Ennio Morricone’s Crime & dissonance on Patton’s label. A dark soundtrack. I won’t look there for something close to FNM but I’m still curious to hear the whole thing.
@Benrun.. you nailed it…I feel exactly the same way, truly blessed to adore FNM & all the members talents. Cannot wait for this album, Bill has done it again and made me happy 🙂
I totally agree! The song snippets on amazon sound amazing! I would be really surprised if Billy and Patton won’t collaborate on something in the near future. Hopefully as FNM…
I feel extremely fortunate to have picked a band with so many talented and motivated guys as my favorite band. I loved everything about Chuck’s album, Patton’s got tons of great projects and bands, I dig Imperial Teen, Trey’s got alot of great songs in Secret Chiefs 3, (I even have Jim’s 2 solo albums), I like watchin’ Puffy drum with Ozzy, and now finally, the man behind the core of FNM’s sound is coming out from behind the desk more often and making some music. I am truly excited about this album! Aren’t you all glad that you didn’t get obsessed with Metallica or something? There are lots of other bands that seem to have locked themselves into a certain fan base that won’t except change, whether it be musical style or even haircuts. I love how anything goes with FNM and it’s members.
