PopMatters have chosen Epic as the number 1 in their 10 Best Alternative Metal Singles of the 1990s list.
This is what they had to say:
“Although The Real Thing was issued in 1989, “Epic” narrowly makes this list by virtue of being released in January 1990. Which might be a little unfair to all the other ranking songs, as Faith No More’s crossover pop hit more than lives up to its title. This Frankenstein’s Monster of funk, metal, alt-rock, and hip-hop is far more than the sum of its parts, and it introduced the world to singer Mike Patton, one of rock’s most talented and versatile vocalists. Patton’s rap flow might sound stilted to modern ears, but “Epic” overcomes its dated sonic signifiers by virtue of the effective realization of its ambition. It’s especially noteworthy that while the nu metal generation was effusive in its praise of the San Francisco, California group, few of them attempted anything as audacious as this track.”
Cheers Erik for the tip.
Meanwhile, Faith No More’s Mike Patton features at number 48 in Greatest Rock Stars list in the latest edition of Kerrang magazine. Lots of people i don’t know are higher in the list including the number one Jason Aalon Butler. Full list here.

^ Mike Patton AND Ed Droste? Aw man… that’s awesome.
Not sure if you’ve seen this, but Mike Patton will be involved in a Serge Gainsbourg Tribute at Hollywood Bowl in CA: http://www.hollywoodbowl.com/tickets/performance-detail.cfm?id=4575
A lot of times I’ll miss subtle humor, but this isn’t that subtle! And they forgot Steve “Lips” Kudlow… wtf?
Wait, Oli “Piss On Girls (Literally) Who Reject Me” Sykes was #2? Honestly? BMTH isn’t even good. Gene fucking Simmons? Dude has to be pushing what, 80? Fucking look at him. KISS is more of a corporation than a band. Not that I’m all pissed Mike isn’t near the top, because fuck, who cares. It’s a fucking Kerrang list. I’m actually surprised Serj Tankian wasn’t up there, because he’s been featured in Kerrang at least 5 million times.
Wait nvm saw Wes Borland, it’s OK guys, it’s a joke list!

So, about that last question. Does that make it officially official, considering he’s been asked this question three times, and each time it becomes more promising? Well, I hope so.
Tom Jones’ “Thunderball” as perform by the great Mr.Bungle, somewhere out there.
What a pathetic and stupid list that is. I could care less about those, but seeing a legend like Patton being mentioned, I always have to take a peek. Also, calling Patton a “rockstar” is pathetic, even Patton himself is appalled by the whole “rockstar” term.To make that list the sh!t it already is, they included those talentless morons from the dreadful deathcore and nu metal genres, ridiculous! Good it wasn’t based on talent and vocal wise, because that would be a damn shame. But, they do pull those ‘best singers in rock list’ all the time, and Patton being outshined by way less superior singers and some that aren’t even singers like that f__k from slipknot and some emo bastards. Patton is in a whole different level. He’s an experimental, avant-garde metal, classical… hell… just a musical genius! Even “rock” cats like Chris Cornell or Cobain aren’t in the same league as Patton – talent-wise and vocally. Seriously, not trying to sound like a Patton fanboy, but that man is one of the greatest singers ever. Up there with Sinatra, Dean Martin, Franklin, Davis Jr., Ton Jones (yeah, that ain’t unusual), blue and soul singers, opera singers.. you name ’em! Those other punks are just modern rock singers. Patton can scream and growl like a beast, but yet he can croon, falsetto, opera and every vocal technique you can think of.
Hadn’t seen this in a awhile… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JZCq-QceJuY
That list sucked. That is all.
