Faith No More were bang on form for the penultimate show of their European tour with a set heavy on early favourites. In fact, aussiemusicfan points out that its the first time the band have played Greed live since Kaiserslautern in 1990.

I was stuck up at the back of the circle and from there it sounded pretty damn good, nobody cared we stood all concert as we were in a block of fans rocking out. Midlife, Ricochet, Epic & WCAL was full on and worth the wedge alone, I thought Patton was spot on with his voice, even the tough stuff, much better than 2009 and the band looked like they were enjoying it.
Most of the gig is on this guys youtube account, just waiting on part 5 appearing. http://www.youtube.com/user/bgilligan07?feature=watch
Oh yeah, on the crowd being stale question. I was just out of the moshers and they did quieten down for the older obscurer stuff, that’s the way any of the gigs I’ve been to have been in the last 30 years. They were well received tho and obviously for the rest of the set it was very lively in there.
Where do people get the idea Patton seemed bored or not keen on the particular songs? If he didnt wanna do them, believe me they wouldnt be done.
Chizzy is right, it wasnt as loud as it could have been, but it was crystal clear form where I was standing just behind the mosh mob.
At the end the bass was being tuned and just off the stage John’s guitar was aswell, even tho the house lights came on. Then someone came along and did the “cut/quit” sign and it was all over. We didn’t get quite an hour and a half but I aint complaining even if a little surprised we didn’t get longer. As said in other thread, I had a fantastic night and wouldn’t have missed it for the world.
Benrun,
Thanks! Well it seems the encores where similar(ish) on other shows. With a couple of classics missing I did wonder if we were gonna get one or two more, but curfew was at 11pm and they were fairly close to this when they finished.
Rob, nice write up. I wonder about the encore, with the roadie tuning the bass, were they planning to play more but something happened?? About WDYB…I always liked the 1992 Warfield version…good controlled chaos. The current version is more refined but still probably the highlight of these excellent shows. Patton screams the lyrics like a maniac on the Poland show and I love how the keys come back in after Niggas in Paris.
Greed was performed WAY BETTER than when Patton attempted it back in 1990, but not just him, the whole band sounded better. Puffy is still an ANIMAL!
Overall, I feel like Billy was right when he wrote “we finally figured out how to do this right” before this European stint…these are the best shows they’ve done since they got back together…they sound even better than in 2011 IMO.
Hey,
here’s the photo that was taken by Danny DeVito: 😀

I was slightly disappointed because I had only a seat. And it was so far away from the stage. The sound was not loud enough up there, I could hardly understand what was being said. 🙁 And I was hoping for the “Matador” song … Very sad that I can’t see the Brixton show. 🙁
Hey jacob, thanks a lot for posting that link to Greed. Really awesome to see them doing that song in the year 2012…who would have thought?
And I agree with Daniel’s comment, I didn’t think Patton seemed bored during the song. Maybe it came off different live, but otherwise I didn’t really see any lack of effort or enthusiasm on his part. Though I think this may be one of those rare cases where Chuck’s vocal style actually fits the song better, but Patton still did a great job with it.
Compare the recent WDYB performances with the version the band did at the Paradiso in Amsterdam circa 1992.
Sorry, made this comment under the wrong post so here it is again:
Reading all the comments before watching the video I was expecting Patton picking his teeth during the songs. I thought it was pretty cool. They put on something really special for the hardcore fans. What was that about the crowd being stale?

here’s a much better version of Greed: http://youtu.be/CCEfprbG-l8
Danny DeVito: “This shit sounds tame compare to Fantomas. Give me that Lombardo guy on drums!”
I love how the little man is just sitting there.
Anyway, it’s a bummer Patton didn’t seem too eager singing Greed or Chuck era songs at all. I bet it was all Puffy’s fault.
I went last night, here’s my review / thoughts. http://safcsmoke.blogspot.co.uk/2012/07/faith-no-more-still-real-thing-in-2012.html

Greed. be warned, It sounds pretty awful…
Funny thing about that Kaiserslautern show – Greed (and other Chuck era songs) were introduced as “some fuckin’ old shit that we haven’t played in a long time”. That was 22 years ago!
Also, up until last night it was the only time Mike Patton had performed Greed with the band.
That’s some nice shredding from Jon there during Pills For Breakfast…never really get to see him cut lose like that. Also, as I’ve seen pointed out here, it’s funny that Mike Bordin was apparently telling Jon to hold on for a second before playing Greed, but he apparently didn’t notice and started playing the opening riff. Poor guy had no choice but to play along.
And I hope some footage of them playing Greed pops up soon, I’m really psyched that they played it.
Oh, and an all WCAL encore? Pretty fucking awesome.
I’m with Shakey…I want kill to hear Faster Disco 2012…such a good song and I think it sounded great live back in the day…just learn a few more of the words this time, Mike! (Of course even greater would be if they brought Chuck on tomorrow night just to have him do Anne’s Song…I would love to hear Jon do the solo too). But I’m happy with what we’ve heard/seen (or will if somebody posts it!).
It’s cool to see all those early songs on the setlist. I guess their trying to give the fans everything they could want before the end of the reunion shows.
