Stereo, I didn’t mean to give that impression about Jon…I’m loving his playing on all the songs, and I do like the Superhero guitar work live, I just wish I could hear it better on the studio version. I like how the Matador solo has evolved and am excited for that track more than any other, but there seems to be room in the long musical outro of Superhero to go off a little bit, kind of like how he riffed at the end of Paths of Glory. I guess what I’m trying to say is that I’m a huge fan of Jon…I just want more Jon in the song! And it ticks me off when people diss the guitar work on AOTY. Jon’s screaming surf guitar on Naked and Got That Feeling are awesome…the siren string bending on Paths of Glory, etc. I think he’s fucking awesome. I can’t wait for that waling ending of Cone of Shame also!
True dat Ben, they all seem proud and excited about the new one. Patton’s recent comments about the music being great and feeling flattered to ask to sing on it also speaks volumes. I have to disagree with your opinion on the FNM guitarists though – I think Jons stuff on Matador and Cone of Shame sounds great. AOTY has some guitar highlights too but I’m not sure how much of that he wrote…
Thanks Alcides! Of course, I say best album but only mean “best for my tastes”. IY is their first album I heard, then got TRT, then went back for WCAL, so the first 1 I bought on release day was AD…and it grew to be my favorite for at least a decade. But as time goes on and I’ve listened to them all a million times over, I come back to IY as being ‘perfect’ for my tastes, while I admit that probably the best playing/singing that Patton, Gould, and Bordin have done is on KFAD. If KFAD had more influence from Roddy, it would be my favorite album…but I miss Roddy too much on it. IY has all 5 giving it their all, whereas Patton wasn’t quite ready for TRT and Jim was too uninvolved on AD. Anyway, I analyze this stuff too much. I have great hopes for SI b/c it’s the first record since IY that seems like you have 5 guys all on equal ground who really want to be making an album.
Great article ben. Thanx
That’s a good article about their best Patton-fronted album; here’s a good article about their best album period, plus it explains Jim’s absence from that one TV interview.

Why it’s important that faith no more is releasing a new album http://bloody-disgusting.com/editorials/3337286/important-faith-releasing-new-album/
I like the remix a lot, not quite as much as the MF remix, but it’s good. I still like the studio version of Superhero less than the live version, whereas I like the studio version of MF a lot. Of the 4 tracks we’ve hear, Superhero still seems the weakest, a lot of it b/c of the mix I think but also it’s just a little less original whereas Matador sounds like an evolution of the band. If Superhero were on AOTY, it would easily not be as good as Stripsearch, Pristina, Mouth to Mouth, Helpless, Paths of Glory, Last Cup, She Loves Me Not….basically it’s better than Home Sick Home, which I still like, but a lot less than the other songs. I listen to it a lot, it’s new FNM, but it is far from their best stuff. Jon’s solo comes through better on the live version, but it could still be more exciting. I think FNM guitarists are better when they are relegated to just a few bars…Jon’s other solos have used their time/space well, and Jim always squeezed in some great stuff with the few seconds that he had. Trey’s solo on Last To Know and Jon’s solo on this track just seem gratuitous and don’t go anywhere. I’ve heard and seen Jon shred before….let him shred!
I’m also disappointed in the East Coast opening act: Le Bucherettes. They are an interesting punk band, but like may punk bands, each song is derivative of the other ones. I don’t think a FNM crowd wants the same song over and over. Chuck and VUA would have been a better choice….each of their songs is quite different from the other ones and fans would have gone nuts getting to see Chuck and FNM on the same night. They have some great new songs and just need a way for more people to hear them.
So would some additional US tour dates.
Supposedly there’s a video in the works for Superhero. I’m guessing we’ll get another single sometime after the album is released…maybe with an unreleased track please?! That would be awesome. Probably thinking too far ahead but something for record store day this year too would top off the year of FNM quite nicely.
…good to see Matt Wallace in the liner notes again, if only for mixing. The song has a great sound to it.
Seems like the admin has given up the ghost! Lol. Anyway, I hope Superhero charts well, particularly in the U.S. It’s #91 in the Alternative Charts which is a good start. I like the Middle eastern influences on the remix. Third single hopefully has a video..maybe Sunny Side Up .
