The good early reviews continue to come in for Faith No More’s comeback album Sol Invictus.
Leading UK music publication Q has given the album a 4/5 review. The verdict itself – delivered by Kerrang! editor James McMahon – is positively glowing despite a gratuitious pay-off about monetary motivation. Indeed, apart from that, it is hard to see where one star was lopped off.
In fact, Mahon states: “This isn’t just a new Faith No More record. It’s one of their very best.” Elsewhere the “hypnotic heavy metal chug of Separation Anxiety” is compared to Black Sabbath and Black Friday is “skeletal country rock”.
Those two tracks plus Matador (“anthemic stadium goth metal”) and Motherfucker are also picked out as the ones to download.
And Devil PR say that we can also expect good reviews from other leading UK media magazines Mojo and Metal Hammer.

I have paid for the record, clear vinyl coming from across the puddle to the middle of north america (canada side) Winnipeg if you really must know, I’d like these assholes to come here, just saw Secret Chiefs and I think Melt Banana will be here in July. There’s no show in Minneapolis so I’m hoping perhaps in the fall? Either way, the album is pretty much amazing, Matador is my current fave, though Cone of Shame is fucking fabulous. All of the songs are gems and I think we’re all more than happy and not surprised, Album of the Year is incredible, aged well as hell, Collision may be my favourite sonically, however, I promise I’ll help out with Pristina if given the chance, I won’t choke and I think you can get MTS centre cheaper on Tuesday, $2.50 Tuesdays, bring Refused and everyone will be at least $75, 9,000 and someone no one would expect, like Earl Sweatshirt or something
Really happy with the reaction to the record. It’s great to read that pay off for their hard work is positive. The ‘monetary’ comments on few of the reviews are in light of some catchy songs on there like ‘superhero, sunny side up, matador and from the dead’ and that behind all that great experimentation and muscle of the album, there are a quite few singles in waiting.
