Faith No More brought their Sol Invictus tour South American leg to a close in their spiritual home of Santiago, Chile on Sunday night. Even with Superhero and Icarus-turned-Lazarus Mike Pattton taking to the stage in a wheelchair, the band delivered a fitting finale and a 19-song salvo.
Como siempre, fue otra vez una noche inolvidable! Gracias Santiago!!!!

Emol: Even songs from his latest work as “Superhero”, “Separation anxiety” or “Rise and Fall” seemed compositions that had spent years with the group, so that the inclusion of these in the set never felt forced

griff and stu, needs its own forum so you can tell people what to and what not to discuss? jeez.
“The site SERIOUSLY needs it’s own forum. I drop in here regularly and, to be blunt, I do not want to read utterly mindless discussion about the weight of band members (!).
Quarantine that guff somewhere else, please. Good grief”
I second that Griff, couldn’t agree more!
imho mike p looks like he has aged about 10-15 years since 2009/10, he looked amazing then. watch the pro shots at download/reading/coachella…just badass… i’m not sure the white baggy pyjamas and haircut helps…but he’s 47, which really isn’t that old, and imo he looks old.
and as a fanboy and lover of aesthetics, while i appreciate the meaning behind the white setup it doesn’t get me. i really miss the bloody red twin peaks styling
obvs these aren’t big deals, and there merely my observations…but where else am i gonna discuss this?
peace guys 🙂

Coming in randomly on this (not posted before), but I only in the past month found out about the reunion and have been YouTube-ing like mad since.
(While listening to FNM and other Patton recordings over the years, I am one of those people who binges on a band/artist or two at a time, then another, then just general normal listening to things, then binge on someone, shake and repeat… So yes, I’m behind on a ton regarding FNM til this month)
I honestly have found Mike’s voice to be better in the recent tour years, hearing FNM live stuff again in so many shows on YT. Especially when I’ve hopped back and forth between the new and pre-break shows clicking around.
To me it’s only been in recent years, say past 35-40 years old, that his voice has started filling out to a more mature quality that often happens with male (active) performers, whether popular culture singers or opera, and his control from sheer working in so many directions over the decades has shown steady progress and broader ability.
Mind, not running down some stellar earlier vocals (especially shown coming out right away on earliest Mr.B stuff as just natural base to build from) live. Just side by side there’s been a noticeable improvement, all through his range.
Tldr; on my way-late FNM catchup and formed by old vs new performances of the same songs, imo, he sounds much better now.
I’m either silent or verbose, sorry for novel.
Yeah, I surely know that a 50 year old has another physics than a man in his twenties. ( I am 40 by the way)And I am really happy about every show they’re playing. But I think Patton lost a lot of his power and weirdness on stage compared to 2011, which is only four years ago. Sometimes I am asking myself, if everything is allright with him. His voice is still stunning anyway.
I think guys usually fill out as they age. Look at Michael Jordan. Guy used to be lean and cut… by the time he was in his 40s he looked bloated. The FNM guys are all in good shape. It’s awesome they didn’t fall into drugs and alcohol. Roddy amazingly got past heroin. That almost never happens. Puffy is like the Zen master of physical fitness at this point. The guy puts me to shame. And Patton’s voice is in fine form.
The guys are fucking amazing for 50 year olds. They blow bands 20 years younger off the stage. As to Mikes theatrics – I’d rather he put effort into performing songs than on-stage antics. MP has chubbed up a little even since the 2.0 stuff kicked off in 09 – take a look at the videos. That’s probably natural entering late 40’s for you and living a life on the road. Nevertheless he probably should leave the stage diving to the younger blokes. He still kills it vocally but the way he sings has to be physically taxing enough. For example at the philly show at the electric factory he dropped a couple of screams (like in KFAD) that were amazing but he looked temporarily spent physically…Puff on the otherhand is just a motor who keeps going – but playing the drums every night for 2 hours like he does is like working out – that dude is fit.
WLB and Todd, I agree with both of you. Back in 2010 I remember commenting that Patton’s voice was going through a rough patch and I though perhaps his weight (which was not heavy, just heavier) was contributing as it would naturally change his tone a bit…I remember having the wrath of quite a few comments for being critical while still saying I enjoyed the shows and the power of his voice. For this album, and this tour, Patton has blown me away with his voice. Earlier this year when he was singing I Started A Joke and a lot of the other tunes, I have to say that they sounded better than they did on the Reunion shows. I think there-in lies the trade off, Patton re-grouped with his voice, but some of the animation and self-abuse had to give a little to be able to do that. I personally prefer to hear Patton’s talent over seeing him hurt himself…his pacing and facial animation is pretty integral to his singing though so I think those will always be with us (except for when he is wheelchair bound!).
Meanwhile…Bill still gets a pretty good workout every night, and Puffy is just incredible. I pretty much just watched Puffy for the whole Detroit show…he wore me out just watching, and I am a habitual marathon runner. And Puffy still hits hard and breaks sticks.
wlb, are you saying he has more power or less in 2015? If less, I guess it’s because he is older. Just like how athletes lose power as they age. Older guys just don’t have the physical explosion that they did when they were young. But they get craftier, and I think Mike has held up really well vocally. Yeah, you can’t expect the same power he had in 1995 or 1997, but he is still getting the job done. And every now and then, he can still really sound off with the insanity of Cuckoo for Caca.
I am wondering what has happened to Mike P and his stage acting. If you compare FNM shows in 2011 to the ones in 2015- there is a big difference in dynamics and power.
Yes – forgot that. Mea culpa
better setlist after that shit show at rock n rio….no wonder why the crowd was icy towards them at rio…playing just a man and i started a joke and motherfucker instead of deeper cuts
Yeah, they are.
Aren’t they playing again in Sacramento in October??
