Rock N Reel We Care a Lot review
Good FNM reviews also show an understanding of the band’s essence and Rock N Reel’s Jonathan Hopper is very on point with her We Care a Lot review:
From Jim Martin‘s crunching metallic riffs on ‘Pills for Breakfast’ (like a possessed ‘Woodpecker from Mars’) and the title track to Gould‘s bass intertwined with Mike Bordin‘s pounding drum-work on the new romantic nightmare of ‘Jungle’ and Roddy Bottom‘s chaotic, spiralling keyboards on ‘As the Worm Turns’ (a song that will still resonate with anyone who has ever felt pigeon-holed by society’s ‘norms’); Faith No More have always been at their greatest when their differences have been most pronounced.
The come of shame teaser really looks to me like an album cover (single)…my guess is a record store day release
Yeah, I keep thinking about the remasters. I don’t have any of those albums on vinyl, so I’m leaning toward that and going to itunes for the tracks I don’t have on CD.
yes very few of us left it seems.I don’t know what the cone of shame teaser means but I am really excited.I broke down and bought p rhino reissue anywaybut they have not arrived yet.so far from samples I do not hear a sound quality improvement, not that it was really necessary though
I don’t do Facebook so I shall share my excitement here…CONE OF SHAME!!??!!
Benrun, I’m not sure if it’s just you me and admin anymore…no one else seems to comment lately…but if so at least we have each other. I’m guessing a lot read but don’t comment…what do the stats look like lately Admin?
About the reissues:
WCAL – incredible sounds, the demos are awesome, the 2016 mixes are pretty good, I wish some other songs would have gotten the treatment. Love that Intro (demo) exists and is out there. Wish there was a whole CD of the live material…I wonder if there is copyright problems since the live show had some of the IY songs on it. There are lots of other different versions of these songs, I wish they were all released, but of all the re-issues this is the one to have, done by the band itself.
TRT – also good, improved sound…but not greatly improved. The real treat would be if Matt Wallace got the original recordings and mixed the album completely different. The sound of this album, especially Patton’s voice and Jim’s guitars date it horribly. Good bonus tracks on this one, some may be hard for people to find.
AD – unremastered, sounds exactly the same on the album tracks and live tracks (which are not the greatest recordings really). However, the studio B-sides of Easy, Landlord, Das Schutzenfest, ATWTs with Patton, and The World Is Yours are remastered and sound better than ever.
KFAD – I haven’t bought this, just listened to samples. I can’t hear any improvement; however, the symbols sound slushier. This seems to sound almost inferior. I can’t tell if the loudness problem is corrected or worsened. I don’t have the best sounding versions of Evidence in Portuguese or Spanish, so maybe I’ll buy those 2 songs. It really annoys me that “Instrumental” is on here instead of AOTY. And the Gentle Art live track was from 97, shouldn’t be on here either.
AOTY – probably FNM’s best produced album originally. Could it be improved? These samples sound a little better, a little punchier, but it might just be my imagination. The live tracks sound overly loud. And the Ashes To Ashes Remix is not the Hardknox Alternative Mix, it is the DJ Icey & Maestro Mix. C’mon Rhino.
I would love a reissue of IY and Live at Brixton (with all the songs, in order), but I’d prefer them not to bother if they are going to screw them up.
