Faith No More Links for a day…(vol. 146): Kirk Hammett love, Puffy speaks (again!), artwork, band pics

February 19th, 2015|Links for a day, News|0 Comments

Faith No More have moved on from their news-making trip to Tokyo and are heading to Australia seemingly via Singapore:

Meanwhile, last night on Twitter, KIRK HAMMETT, guitarist with  Metallica – another San Francisco-based rock band, again laid bare his admiration for Faith No More.

MIKE BORDIN is fast emerging as the face of Faith No More. The drummer – who sounds on his ferocious best form on new song Cone of Shame – has recorded a promo video for Yamaha Drums. And here it is:

(Hat tip to the always on The Holy Filament)

WE HAVEN’T had a stab at working out the lyrics for Cone of Shame but we will when we escape from work and from the fug of the worse dose of manflu in the history of humankind.
Here’s another video of the song debut by the way

But Rock Genius, a subsection of Genius, formerly known as Rap Genius, have their own Faith No More section up and running nicely and they have their version of Motherfucker up there already.
And we’ve just added a Cone of Shame page before we have a real crack at the lyrics:

And Motherfucker:

FAITH NO MORE have always inspired great ARTWORK and artist Luke Preece has created a wonderful interpretation of Angel Dust.

You can buy this wonderful print at his Etsy store.
And Luke also has an interesting insight into how the work was created on his blog.

Faith No More’s Motherfucker single on sale for Record Store Day Black Friday

November 28th, 2014|Faith No More, News|9 Comments

The day has arrived. Faith No More‘s first single since 1998 and first new music since 1997 is now available to buy in independent record shops in the USA and Canada.
The 7-inch limited-edition single Motherfucker comes complete with a B-side remix from J. G. Thirlwell and is available at some of these participating stores.

Some lucky fans have already picked up copies (see above) but some unscrupulous shops are selling the record on Amazon and eBay for up to $80 which goes totally against the spirit of Record Store Day.
Let us know if you have got your copy.

Faith No More Motherfucker lyrics and stream

November 20th, 2014|Faith No More, News|0 Comments

We’ve been attempting to decipher the lyrics of Motherfucker since we first heard it at Hyde Park in the summer but no the clear audio of the new audio stream has allowed us and especially commenter Ben to come up with the definitive version.

Force-fed more than we’d eat in the wild
Grazed on a mash that could suffocate a child
Bloated, promoted in an ode to pomp and style
Moistening the feed while we choke upon the bile
Cornering the market on the geese without their bones
Hushing out the public in a strike without a drone
The cage became collapsible, our sticks equipped with stones
Get the motherfucker on the phone, the phone (repeat)

Hello motherfucker, my lover, you saw it coming.

Set aside the scruples in a stratagem of strain
A smallpox-laden blanket, invisible with stains
Inoculating bastards, bloody peck at pain
Distemper has a hold, distemper has a hold
We took the second sip from a cup we made of bones
The first it was a ruse, a trick so aptly thrown
The truth is that our youth was a carpet laid of stones
Get the motherfucker on the phone, the phone

Hello motherfucker, my lover, you saw it coming
Goodbye motherfucker, my lover, you had it coming

Get the motherfucker on the phone (repeat)

First reviews of Faith No More’s Motherfucker

November 19th, 2014|Faith No More, News|4 Comments

The immediate media and social media reaction to Motherfucker, Faith No More’s comeback single, has been largely positive.
Here is a quick summary:

Stereogum:

It’s probably intended as a warmup for the LP, and is thus sort of a throwaway for the band, but sonically and structurally, “Motherfucker” sounds like vintage FNM, owing largely to Mike Patton’s remarkable vocal range and attack. It’s not going to make anyone forget Angel Dust, but it might make some people remember Angel Dust, and it sets a pretty high bar for the new album.

Spin

Prog-metal gods Faith No More have released a shitkicking new anthem called “Motherfucker,” which will serve as the lead single on the troupe’s as-yet-untitled album.

Slate

Now the first single is here—and it definitely sounds like a Faith No More song, with Patton alternately rap-singing and wailing over a military-style drum beat with cooing backup vocals and crescendoing power chords heralding a guitar solo that arrives a little over two minutes in. It’s got a Faith No More title, too: “Motherfucker.”

Metal Sucks

It’s like, y’know, a bajillion times better than that shitty video of the band playing it live. I am now more confident than ever than the new Faith No More album is going to be worthy of the FNM name.

Heavy Blog is Heavy

The song echoes the overall tone of “Pristina”, the 1997 swan song that closed out Album of the Year, but contrasts its finality with a rejuvenated motif about getting “that motherfucker.” Several aspects of the track are reminiscent of other pieces in Faith No More’s body of work, including 1989’s The Real Thing and other pieces of Album of the Year.

Exclaim

The first song to be released from the group since 1997, “Motherfucker” takes on properties of the FNM of old, whether it be Mike Patton’s The Real Thing rap cadence, or the way the vocalist can easily turn out soaring vocal melodies to gruff and grizzly growls targeting the “motherfucker” that tricked them in their youth. The music is likewise epic, evolving from spacious and sinister piano lines into a grand rock escapade.

Zumic

Faith No More just released their first new song in 17 years and it’s nothing short of magnificent.

The digital release of Faith No More‘s comeback single Motherfucker may not be until 9 December but the song has already charted on iTunes in some countries, based on pre-order sales alone.

In Poland, the song is number 26 in the overall iTunes song chart, nestled cosily just behind Meghan Trainor and her All about that Bass. And it is NUMBER ONE in the rock category.

In Romania, Motherfucker is number 3 in the rock category – with Shakin’ Stevens bizarrely at number 2.

In Finland, meanwhile, the song is number 6 in the rock category.

In the Netherlands, the song is 38 in the iTunes rock chart.

And Motherfucker is at number 93 in the overall Bulgarian iTunes chart. The song is also number 2 in the rock category  – beaten off the top spot only by Nickelback!!

No sign of the song in the Chile charts. But Easy is number two in the rock charts and 99 on the overall songs chart, just ahead of Meghan Trainor. Yes, Easy is the 99th most-downloaded song in Chile – in November 2014!
